Overview of Forums

Below is a list of the big 8 websites in the Sailing Forum world. Traffic ranking (in hit order) is from Alexa.com

1. Sailing Anarchy 34,672

One of the biggest sailing sites on the internet, Sailing Anarchy get most of its audience (58%) from the US. Heavily racing biased although it does have a forum area for cruisers. As an e-zine site as well, Sailing Anarchy has succeeded in building a succesful forum from traffic coming in to view information about racing and race results.

2. YBW 68,382

Big website serving virtually all corners of the yachting community from classic boats through to modern motorboats. Benefits from being led by some of the biggest publications in yachting such as Yachting World, Classic Boat, Motor Boats Monthly and Practical Boat Owner.

Many forum areas including some specialist forum areas. Not the most serious of forums and arguably generalist but it's wide user base means that questions can often be answered easily. Topics can sometimes get quite lively and interesting.

3. Cruisers Forum 114,579

With 16,000 members, Cruisers Forum offers more detailed focus and much greater depth. With specialist areas for Multihulls, Inboards, Tenders, Seamanship and so on. A good site for those with real sailing ambition who wish to get answers to questions and benefit in a more focused way from peoples knowledge.

4. Yachts and Yachting* 246,768

Long term favourite with the British UK dinghy and keelboat sailing public, Yachts and Yachting forum is one of the places to discuss dinghy sailing. Appears to be quite a young audience on the whole. It is a great site for learning and asking questions about dinghy and keelboat sailing.

5. Cruiser Log 604,000

As the name suggests, Cruiser Log with 5,000 members is there for the cruising yachtsman. With the usual array of practical, sailing, pub type forums it also has good regional forums, crew finders and offers users a Wiki option.

6. Blue Moment 950,000

Blue Moment is another useful resource. Relaxed and with an area that reports overdue / missing and other events useful to the true cruising sailor.

7. Dinghy Sailing Magazine 2,270,973

Dinghy Sailing Forum. Very focused. Not as busy as the Yachts and Yachting Forum

8. Go Sail 23,472,188

Relatively new kid on the block but I do like the style of the Go Sail site.
